Svoboda (Ukraine) - 2068 C.E.

Description

Svoboda, or Freedom, is Ukraine's oldest continuous political party. Originally founded as the neo-Nazi Social-National Party, the party went through a rebranding process to appeal to the mainstream in the '00s, and entered parliament in the wake of the Euromaidan revolution. While some believed that the party would moderate further, the loss of the Dontesk to Russian occupation pushed the party back towards the far-right. Svoboda would become the leading party of the far-right in Ukraine, opposing the Neo-Putinist political system and the "half-baked" peace deal with Russia, which returned the Dontesk while acceding the loss of Crimea. Svoboda was an early adopter of National Syndicalism as it came into vogue in the Black Tides, and became close partners with the All-Polish Solidarity Party (United Poland). By the 50s, Svoboda had relaxed its rules on only ethnic Ukrainians being allowed to join. In 2043, the party allowed Poles to join, and in 2052, the party officially dropped almost all membership restrictions, allowing Jews, refugees, and immigrants to join. The only prohibited groups were Russian-speakers and believers in the Russian Orthodox faith. As far as Svoboda's leaders were concerned, the only real threat to Ukraine's national integrity was Russia, and any enemy of Russia was a friend to them. Svoboda would enter in a deep conspiracy with United Poland. In exchange for material support for their electoral effort, once Svoboda had complete power in their country, Svoboda would acknowledge Poland's leadership over the broad National Syndicalist movement. As Svoboda gained in popularity across Ukraine in the '50s, the stage was set. While none of the other parties would work with Svoboda, all they needed was enough seats in the Rada to disrupt the formation of a government. By disrupting a unified resistance, invading Polish forces and Svoboda's paramilitaries would have enough time to destroy Svoboda's enemies.

However, this grand conspiracy fell flat. Coming out of the 2059 elections, Svoboda was only the second largest party, and the Network Movement quickly formed a government with the All-Slav Free Union. United Poland was ready to invade anyways, and crush the Transhumanist upstarts, but threats from the New Bolsheviks in Russia forced them to back down. While the depth of Svoboda's conspiracy was never revealed, Svoboda's ties with the Polish government and the near-invasion was enough to make them some of the most hated people in Ukraine. While Svoboda would cling to much of its local and regional support, they suffered great losses in the 2064 Rada elections, falling from 145 to 19 seats. Currently, with Our Land/Self-Defense as the darlings of the far-right, it may be more than a decade before Svoboda can hope to recover. However, it would be foolish to ever count the party out.

Note: This project uses a fair amount of invented political ideologies and associated jargon, as well as references to other events and organizations. Due to the changes in language over time, some terms may no longer line up with their contemporary definitions. Some explanations for this box.

Deep Ecology: Deep Ecology is a belief that organic life has a spiritual nature that makes it more special than nonliving things. Deep Ecologists believe that "transhumanist" techologies, such as body modification, genetic engineering and synthetic intelligence, intrude and desecrate this special nature, and should thus be eradicated from society.

National Syndicalism: National Syndicalism is a ideology that proposes to free the nations from the bonds of international capitalism by establishing an economy ran by trade union syndicates and other voluntary organizations that uphold national values.

From the shining mega-cities of the African coast, to the flooded streets of Old Miami. From the packed arcologies of China, to the bleak burning fields of Venezuela. From the vigorous debate of commune meeting halls in Buenos Aires, to the hushed whispers of secret party meetings in Munich. From the singing in the historicist concert halls of Montreal, to the screams over the burning slums of Moscow. From crowds of protesters in London, New Delhi, and Oran, to lonely miners on the Moon. All of it lives, all of it breathes, and all of it will one day die. All under the same twinkling light of the stars.

Our Fathers' Stars.
