Citizen Socialists (France) - 2068 C.E.

Description

The Citizen Socialists are a motion of the National Front, and represent its left wing. The Citizen Socialists was formed by Socialist party deputies that decided to leave the party and caucus with the FN when the Socialist-Republican pact was formalized into the new Social-Republican party in 2044. These rebel deputies were disgusted by their parties collaboration in the name of anti-populism and Europeanism, and believed that French Socialism was at this point a bankrupt ideology. Thus, to replace it, the rebels gravitated towards the writings of Maureen Charette. Charette, a historian and former socialist turned nationalist, had grown cynical of the FN's tendency towards free-market, anti-labor policies. Her landmark tome, A History of Socialism in France, painted the rise and decline of the socialist movement over two centuries. Her more speculative follow-up, The Future of Socialism in France, called for the abandonment of the ideology's outwards looking, cosmopolitan republicanism and instead look inward to rebuild the socialist movement based on traditional French social structures. In addition to drawing in ex-socialists, this new movement also attracted disaffected nationalists, who also believed that the FN was not doing enough to support the peoples' welfare. The new motion, Building a Citizen's Socialism, was formalized in time for the 2047 party conference, and while their platform failed to proceed to the second round, they did earn respect among the conference delegates.

Since then, the Citizen Socialists have formed alliances with the other economic nationalist motions, and have become an important part of the National Front. Their ideology of French Neo-Socialism, or Citizen Socialism, combines market socialist ideas with rhetoric reminiscent of Bolivarian Socialism, along some of the more dirgistic elements of social democracy. The party promotes the creation of a "social-national market," in which corporations would be socially owned by citizens and guided by state policy. This economic policy would be complemented by an expanded UBI and a comprehensive national health service, paid for by the "social dividends" of the new market. As for cultural policy, while the motion is one of the most progressive members of the FN, the Citizen Socialists are still relatively conservative. They tend to opt for a more civic nationalism and a return to more secularist policies. While not explicitly bioconservative, the motion is not in favor of synthetic rights, seeing them as a "non-class" that exists to serve the citizenry. On foreign policy, the Citizen Socialists are in favor of continuing support to European insurgents, seeing the movement as a liberatory struggle against the technocratic EU.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

From the shining mega-cities of the African coast, to the flooded streets of Old Miami. From the packed arcologies of China, to the bleak burning fields of Venezuela. From the vigorous debate of commune meeting halls in Buenos Aires, to the hushed whispers of secret party meetings in Munich. From the singing in the historicist concert halls of Montreal, to the screams over the burning slums of Moscow. From crowds of protesters in London, New Delhi, and Oran, to lonely miners on the Moon. All of it lives, all of it breathes, and all of it will one day die. All under the same twinkling light of the stars.

Our Fathers' Stars.
